Deep Tissue Massage

imageDeep Tissue Massage relieves tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body.  This method is very effective in releasing chronicly tight areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering restrictions.image   Keeping in mind that everyone experiences pressure differently, The nature of  deep tissue work can be slightly uncomfortable for some of us, so open communication with your therapist during your  session at Whole Life Massage is crucial in making sure you are ok with the level of puressure used. Temporary soreness the next day sometimes happens,  and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of possible irritants that will have been released during the session.  Your therapist may also give you some  suggestions on additional home care  ideas to help you avoid any residual discomforts.

Some clients have found they are able to lesson their pain medication with the added benefit of massage, sometimes letting go of their medication all together. Consultation with your doctor is highly recommended if you are currently on a pain management program.

Healing after an Auto Accident:  image

Adding Massage to your recovery plan is a good idea.  Your massage session will address pain management in the affected body region where you are experiencing the discomfort. Your manual therapist at  Whole Life Massage may also give you tips and home care ideas to help you feel better over time.   Experience has shown that during recovery, your mind and body needs time to process the stress of having undergone the ordeal of an accident. Some people find 2-3 repeated visits  helps reduce the pain and stiffness associated with the healing process.  Massage effectively given, is one of the best ways for your  body to regain vitality and recover quickly.

Thai / Trigger Point / Sports / Russian / Mobile

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body.  Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body.  These ‘knots’ are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress.  During a session, focused pressure is imageapplied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points.   This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.  Becasue of the nature of this modality, be sure to let your therapist know if you become too uncomfortable so that adjustments can be made to make sure your experience remains positive.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people or athletes.  Engaging in sports is challenging on the body and can often lead to injuries and stress in both the short and long term.  Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates.  Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.  So schedule a sports massage with one of our Sports Massage experts at Whole Life Massage and feel better as you head for your next challenge! image

Russian Massage

Russian Massage

Russian Sports Massage is used for pre and post athletic event considerations.  This includes the application of  ‘hygenic’- principals of Russian massage for continued health and vitality of the individual during non performance periods.

Developed in the former Soviet Union, Russian Massage is considered to be one of the most non-invasive and relaxing forms of massage therapy.  The philosophy considers pain avoidance during therapy as a key factor in producing better performance outcomes.

Combining aspects of both therapeutic and sports principles, Russian massage uses a variety of specific techniques to release stress and enhance circulation. As with all forms of massage therapy, open communication during your session is encouraged to make sure you benefit from the experience as much as possible.

Stone Therapy /Hot Rocks

Stone Therapy /Hot Rocks is a type of bodywork that uses deep penetrating heat and/or alternating cold from specialized stones.  The physiological benefits of alternating hot and cold to the body have long been scientifically and medically proven.
Stone Therapy delivers a profound expansion and contraction inside your circulatory system, improving the function of your lymphatic and immune systems, and enhancing your body’s self-healing mechanisms.  This style of bodywork takes you into deep states of relaxation, releasing stress and anxiety, detoxifying the body, and balancing your nervous system.

Anxiety and Stress Reduction

imageEver feel like things are a little out of control, not just because you know your mind is racing,  but because your body tells you so?

Massage has many benefits.  Especially for is its ability to calm the body.

Many of us have experienced the effects of stress  and anxiety from time to time.  Or maybe you know someone, say a co-worker, friend or family member who might be.

Sometimes, when we are under a lot of pressure, say from work deadlines, difficult people or situations  our ability to cope diminishes and can contribute to feelings of anxiety and nervousness sometimes leading to depression.

In other areas we feel a sort of dull spreading achieness  that never seems to fully go away such as with a tight neck, shoulders and back.  Or  it goes away temporarily and returns again interfering with sleep and routine activities with feelings of pain and stiffness.

Receiving massage on a regular basis from one of our qualified licensed professionals  at Whole Life Massage will go a long way in supporting your health.  Massage  reduces stored muscle tension.  The more times being acquainted with deep muscle relaxation the more easily it will be to return to that state.  Your therapist at Whole Life Massage, might have you try calming essential oils known for their relaxing properties.  Breathing and calming techniques may also be used to help bring greater awareness to where the stored tension resides so it may more easily be released.

Floating around in our system during times of stress is a hormone called cortisol.   Most of us would agree the effects of stress over the long haul, isn't good for our heart  and arteries.  Massage helps your brain to calm down and release  natural feel good hormones,  such as dopamine, also lowering cortisol. This has been shown to also help with depression and anxiety.

The Touch Research Institute, School of Medicine in Miami, FL has a number of excellent research reports on the  cause and effect and benefits of massage.

If you know yourself or someone  to experience  the effect of stress and anxiety and want it gone,  schedule a  massage today at Whole Life Massage  and feel the immediate benefits!
