Swedish
Swedish massage relaxes muscles through pressure applied to the muscles and joints with soothing strokes returning blood to the heart. This increases oxygen flow and releases toxins built up in the muscles. We often combine this modality with other techniques, such as passive stretching or myofacial release to support the overall health giving and restorative benefit of this massage.   Swedish massage can be used in relaxation and therapeutic applications to help reduce pain, recover from injuries and  increase your general well-being.

Trigger Point

Trigger Point massage works the different muscles layers individually. The therapist works surface muscles, connective tissues and deeper ligaments. This type of massage is similar to acupressure, where pressure is placed on certain points of the body. This is an excellent therapeutic technique for releasing chronically tight or restricted areas and can often restore mobility in places where you have experienced continued pain and limited range of motion.  We  will give you additional ideas to continue self trigger point work that you can  easily do at the office or in the comfort of your own home.

Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage works the deeper muscles to release tension in the body, usually chronic tension. This is done with slow strokes and concentrated pressure on the tense area to remove toxins and loosen muscles. Deep tissue massage can result in soreness for a day or two following the massage.

Sports
This unique form of massage is typically done in conjunction with athletic events--- prior to, during and after.  Your therapist will use massage, stretching and passive range of motion techniques to deliver preparative or restorative treatment.  Sports massage relieves fatigue, reduces swelling in the muscles and joints thereby promoting flexibility and injury prevention. These techniques will also help heal minor injuries caused by excess activity.  Massage assists circulation by delivering oxygen & nutrients quickly where it is needed to help repair muscle tissue.  This process further supports removing residual  metabolic waste left behnd  in muscle tissue, often relieving muscle fatigue and soreness more quickly. Sports massage is known for this assistance in faster recovery times and keeping you in top shape for continued success duirng training, on and off the field.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release stretches the myofascial unit – a combination of muscles and the fascia, a thin layer of tissue covering every muscle. When a muscle is injured or strained, the fascia around it tightens. By strechting both areas together, the therapist relieves soreness in the muscle and repairs the tightened fascia.
Hot Stone
Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated stones to sooth and relax your muscles. The stones are usually volcanic because of their ability to absorb heat well. Our basalt stones at Whole Life Massage Center, come from the Oregon Coast and have a nice weight and feel to them.  The therapist may place smaller stones around your body to add penetrating heat to a particular area, and also use larger ones to massage you.  Give it a try, and discover for yourself how wonderful you will feel during and after your treatment.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is a wonderful addition to your wellness program during pregnancy. Modified Swedish massage is used along with other relaxation and comfort measures to create a wonderfully nurturing and resorative experience for you and your baby.   We are known for our extrordinary care when it comes to mom's comfort--we use a wide assortment of  comfy pillows for support and adjust things to accomodate your needs during your special time while you are with us at the center.
Pre & Post Surgery & Recovery
Massage prior to having surgery can help prepare your mind and your body to reduce the effects of stress hormones, typically associated with the anxiety of waiting and anticipating the event.  Massage can also prepare your body by increasing circulation which encourages  your lymphatic system to flush away residual metabolic waste, thereby boosting your immunity.  After surgery, massage will help to reduce the swelling and discomfort that comes from your body's natural inflamation  response during wound healing. Massage can also aid in post scar tissue recovery,  by increasing flexibility and reducing the tighness associated with scar formation, and muscle stiffness. This process further supports your skin, ligaments and muscles by bringing nutrients and oxygen to the injured area while helping to reduce pain during healing.  Your therapist can give you home care ideas to support your well-being before and after your surgery.
